Panama Canal notifies Overflow on the west lane of Gatun Locks

PANAMA FLASH! – Panama City – September 13th, 2022

Today at approx. 0820hrs the Panama Canal Authority reported a overflow on the Gatun Locks west lane. At approx. 1023hrs the Panama Canal informed that the traffic was reestablished on the west lane. During this period the East Lane of Gatun Locks was still operative. Due to this event 1 Southbound non-booked Panamax size was delayed.

The Panama Canal Authority also reported dense fog overnight which forced them to reschedule a booked LNG Northbound programmed to transit September 13th in the Neopanamax locks.  This event is not related to the overflow situation experienced in the Gatun Locks.

The Panama Canal Authority informed that a team of specialist investigates the causes of the overflow in Gatun Locks.
