Changes to the auctioned slots in the Neopanmax Locks and a temporary reduction in booking slots for the Panamax Locks

Panama Flash! Panama City, August 4th, 2023 – The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announces that effective August 8, 2023, Booking Condition 3 will be in effect for the Panamax Locks. Under this condition, the number of slots available for supers will be reduced to 10, and the number of slots for regulars will be reduced to 4. This condition will remain in effect until August 21, 2023. Applications while this condition is in effect will begin at 0900 hours, Saturday, August 5, 2023. The slot distribution during Booking Condition 3 will be as set forth in the Condition Table of Notice to Shipping No. N-7-2023. The special auction slots will remain at two (2) for supers and one (1) for regular vessels. The extraordinary auction for the Panamax Locks will be suspended during this period.

(d) During Conditions 2 and 3, no more than six supers may be booked for transit in the same direction and, of these, no more than four with daylight restrictions. The number of daylight restricted vessels shall not exceed six, and the number of JIT transit slots may not exceed one per direction.

Additionally, for the Neopanamax Locks, the extraordinary auctions for booking dates between August 8, 2023 and August 21, 2023 will be suspended. The daily auction offered 7 days prior to transit date and the special auction will continue to be offered.

The ACP may announce additional changes to the Transit Reservation System to ensure a safe and efficient operation of the Canal.

Changes affecting the Panamax locks will be as follow:

The booking slot allocation for Supers currently consist in 7 slots in the 1st period and 3 slots in the 2nd period, resulting in a total of 10 slots.  With the change of the booking condition to 3; no slot will be offered when the 3rd period opens.

The booking slot allocation for regular currently consist in 3 slots in the 1st period and 1 slot in the 2nd period, resulting in a total of 4 slots.  With the change of the booking condition to 3; no slot will be offered when the 3rd period opens.

This change will be in effect from August 8th to August 21st.  therefore, the booking applications submitted from August 5th up to Aug 18th; no 3rd period slot will be offered.

The ACP will continue to offer 2 special auctions for supers and 1 special auction for regulars. 

The extraordinary auction for Panamax will be suspended during this period.  

The extraordinary auction are Booking slots that become available within 96 hours from the booking date due to cancellations, changes in date, early transit of booked vessels, or other reasons and are reoffered through the auction system.

Extraordinary auction for booking dates between August 8th to August 21st will be suspended. 

The extraordinary auction are Booking slots that become available within 96 hours from the booking date due to cancellations, changes in date, early transit of booked vessels, or other reasons and are reoffered through the auction system.
