Explosion near Bridge of the Americas

PANAMA FLASH! | Panama City –  April 7th, 2026

An explosion was reported yesterday in the La Boca area, near the Bridge of the Americas, involving fuel tanker trucks at a local facility. The incident resulted in one fatality and several minor injuries, including emergency personnel.

Vehicular traffic across the bridge remains suspended as authorities continue to conduct structural safety inspections following the intensity of the fire.

The Panama Maritime Authority has suspended the concession granted to POTSA terminal, a marine fueling (bunkering) and fuel storage terminal operator, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Other terminal operators within the area continue to operate normally without disruptions.

Panama Canal operations remain fully normal, with no impact to vessel transits.
