PANAMA FLASH! – Modifications to the Booking Periods and Slot Distribution for Neopanamax Vessels

Panama City – February 24^th, 2023 | The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced February 17^th, 2023, some modification and slot distribution for the Neopanamax transit reservation system. Please find additional clarifications.

Redistribution of booking slot per period

Booking Period 1:

Booking slots already awarded in period 1 will be honored.

Slots available in period 1 will carried over to period 1A and period 2 in the following manner:

Special passenger slot (if avaialble) will be redistributed to period 1A.

Any unused slot from period 1 (except passenger special slot) will be redistributed to period 2.

Booking Period 1.a:

Booking slots already awarded in period 1A will be honored.

On March 1^st, 2023 the new booking period 1A to transit March 31^st, 2023 will open.  LPGs carrier will be able to participate from this date onwards in period 1A.

LPG Carriers cannot participate for slots during period 1A for dates prior March 31^st, 2023 ( March 16^th – March 30^th )  – since the competition for those dates occurred already. LPGs carrier intending to transit between March 16^th to March 30^th will need to participate at the opening of the 2^nd booking period (14 days before the transit date).

Maximum number of booking slots offer to LNGs carrier continue to be 2 per day. Contrary to the previous booking system where the 1^st LNG was booked in period 1A and the 2^nd LNG in period 2; the new booking regulation allows the 2 LNGs carriers to be booked from period 1A.

Booking Period 2:

One daily slot will be retained to be offered as a daily auction for southbound vessel. Consequently, the total number of slots offered for southbound vessel in the regular booking periods is reduced from a maximum of 3 to 2 slots.
